HALLOWEEN 2007
I didn't have my usual last-minute flurry of sewing this year!  So... here is what they came up with.
Emily as Hermione Granger
Matthew went as Harry Potter a couple of years ago so we still had the robe and necktie I made for that.  The uniform was all thrift-store pieces (all adult sizes, because apparently kids don't wear gray that much) and Emily's own shoes.  She had her hair in tiny braids for about 24 hours to get Hermione's wavy hair - even wore it to school like that!  She loved it, and everyone commented on what a good Hermione she was.  The light-up wand is mine, a birthday present from Clint, and it was very useful after it got dark (puts out a surprising amount of light!).
Gotta brag on the sweater - nowhere could I find a gray v-neck sweater.  What I ended up doing was making one.  I bought a turtleneck and took the neck off.  Then I cut a V in the sweater.  I was originally just going to fold over the V and hem it, but then realized that the turtleneck, cut in half and folded over the edge, looked just like the binding on a real v-neck sweater.  So that's what I did.  It didn't quite meet up in the back but who was going to see that?  I think it turned out really well.  Clint didn't even realize it hadn't come that way!
Matthew as a Ninja
Matthew's original plan was for him and his buddy to go as Imperial troopers from Star Wars.  But they never got together to go buy the costumes, so Matthew took the money he'd saved and picked out this one from the Halloween store.  He also went trick-or-treating with friends this year instead of with Emily and me.
